We're Here!

It took us 29 hours from taking off out of PHX to landing in Nanjing, China. And our luggage made it as well. We are a little worn out, but happy to be here. We won't get Melanie until tomorrow, so you'll all just have to wait one more day.

I know it's kind of a no brainer, but there really are ALOT of people here. Nanjing is the capitol of Jiangsu Province and its population is 6 million with surrounding areas. Sunday afternoon in the downtown area is just wall to wall people and bicycles and mopeds and cars...crazy. Lots of construction and lots of tall apartment complexes everywhere.

The flights all went pretty well. We were an hour late from LAX to Guangzhou, but were able to fall asleep relatively quickly since it was about 2:15am PHX time when we passed out. Then just before we landed in China there was an announcement about disinfecting the cabin. Seriously, they said if you're sensitive to the fumigation cover your nose and mouth with a tissue. They then proceeded to walk up and down the isle with some sort of aerosol spray. No bird flu was getting off of our flight. On the flight from Guangzhou to Nanjing we sat behind a lady with a baby (around a year old) and what looked to be the lady's mother. So we were trying to watch and learn how to best entertain the baby for when we take Melanie on her first plane ride on Friday.

The weather in Guangzhou was very gloomy and rainy, however Nanjing is sunny and pleasantly cool. We have no idea what we are doing. We walked around Guangzhou airport like we were first time travelers. Our travel service (Lotus Travel) and our agency (Hand In Hand ) are taking very good care of us. We just got to our hotel room at the Jinling 5 star Hotel. After a shower and a nap we're going to hit the town and see how locals party. The internet service was slow to start so we'll see how the week progresses. I'll post a few pictures of our trip out and maybe give you another update later.
